Occasionally I see a report that I feel I just need to pass on, this is about just such a report. Cnet has a report about an incident in a salmon farm in Northern Ireland. Evidently a pack of jellyfish, some 10-square miles (about 2,600 hectares) in area and about 35 feet deep (roughly 11 metres) invaded the salmon farm. The pack contained billions of jellyfish.
Normally this type of jellyfish is not seen so far North, leading some to speculate the cause being global warming.
Although the story sounds bizarre, the results for the salmon farm are potentially catastrophic. The jellyfish killed 100,000 fish, worth about US$2million. The farm now faces the real risk of going bust.
