On July 2nd my son (Will Poynter) and I (Ray Poynter) are cycling from Land's End to John o' Groats, and along the way we hope to raise money for Oxfam. We are currently setting ourselves a target of £5,000. You can make a donation by clicking here.
Land's End is the most South-Western part of the UK, and John o' Groats is the North-Eastern tip, the journey between them being about 1000 miles, around1600 KM. (Note the map below shows one possible route, we are still finalising our plans at the moment.)
At the moment we expect the journey to take between 10 and 15 days, depending on how fit we can get and the sort of conditions we meet along the way (in particular whether we have to contend with head winds).
The trip is fully self-financed and any money raised will go to Oxfam, please click here to make an online donation.
Also on the trip will be my daughter Michele who will be driving the support vehicle and her boyfriend Matt who will be riding with us and raising money for the Cornwall Air Ambulence, you can visit his donation site here.
The picture above was taken in 2006, after Will and I had completed the somewhat shorter Coast-to-Coast cycle ride. William was only 15 then, so he is three years stronger now. I am also older, so maybe that will help me too?
